Gamfication comes in many ways. However, one variant has reached particular popularity — the “Streak”. “Streak” is English and in this context means “series,” “streak,” or “series.” This is the visualization that a specific activity was carried out more frequently in a row and without interruption. oee.ai also uses the streak, for example when gamifying the background input. In this article, we'll look at what makes the streak so special.
The streak is used in oee.ai, for example, for fault input. Emojis are displayed in a row, which symbolize whether a reason for interference has been entered. The default configuration is a “thumbs up” for a completed entry and a “monkey sees nothing” for a missed entry. Employees are intrinsically motivated to provide complete background information, as they do not want to interrupt the series of “thumbs up”.

Why was this particular form of visualization chosen? Psychology gives us answers:
- Consistency bias: People have a natural tendency to value consistency. As soon as people start a streak, they are motivated to maintain it because canceling the streak feels like disrupting the established pattern. This bias encourages people to keep engaging with the activity.
- Sense of success and progress: Identifying a growing streak strengthens a person's sense of self-worth and competence and their desire to continue the behavior that led to the streak.
- Loss aversion: The fear of losing something can be a powerful motivator. In the context of a streak, the longer the streak is, the greater the perceived loss when interrupted. People are more motivated to keep up the winning streak to avoid the negative emotions that come with losing their progress.
- Setting and achieving goals: Setting and achieving small, manageable goals on a regular basis can be very motivating. Streaks break down bigger tasks into smaller, more achievable milestones, making progress more tangible and rewarding.
- Habit formation: Streaks can be helpful in forming habits. Engaging in a behavior consistently over time helps solidify it as a routine, making it more likely that people will continue the behavior even without the streak's external motivation.
- Positive reinforcement: Every successful day or instance in a series provides positive reinforcement. This positive feedback loop can create a sense of satisfaction and happiness by relating the behavior to positive emotions and making individuals more likely to repeat it.
We now know that streaks are effective because they're rooted in human psychology and how our brains work. Streaks are therefore a robust repetition mechanism. People are rewarded every time and in many ways when they complete an action, which means that the streak addresses many characters and is therefore broadly applicable.
